Notts come up short again

Away days: Notts play at Valley Parade on the opening day of the season...
The fixtures released today have once again failed to go in favour of Notts County, with the vast majority of potential money spinning dates being issued to Nottingham Forest.

Notts find themselves away from home on both the first and last games of the season for the third year in a row.

It has also been announced that County will be performing away on Boxing Day, in addition to the first game of 2009.

The last time that Notts were drawn at home on the opening day of the season was way back in 2004 against Chester City, when Gary Mills' side conceded a late goal to draw 1-1.

Ever since, fans have had to travel to the likes of Torquay, Lincoln, Grimsby and now Bradford.

Bury were the most recent side to face Notts at home on the final day of the season in 2005, when Gudjon Thordarson's side nearly dropped down into the Conference.

Meadow Lane will play host to three big dates, however, with County taking on Rotherham and Lincoln over the Christmas holidays, as well as Grimsby on a bank holiday Monday in March.

Another plus is that County find themselves at home in the Carling Cup against Championship new-boys, Doncaster Rovers.

Overall, Notts will again feel hard done by though, especially in a financial sense as the major dates are once again being played away from home.
