Lincoln City full back Lee Beevers has today been linked with the short move West to Nottingham, as the chase for the highly rated defender hots up. Beevers cost the Imps £50,000 when he joined from Boston United in 2005, but after 4 years at Sincil Bank he has rejected a new contract offer and looks all set to leave Peter Jackson's side.
Scottish Premier League side Motherwell had been favourites to secure the all action defender's signature, but that deal appears to be dead in the water after Well manager Mark McGhee moved to Aberdeen last week. This leaves a host of Football League clubs chasing the right back's signature, with Colchester United believed to be heading the pack. The U's are locked in talks with Shrewsbury Town over a move for striker Grant Holt, and are supposedly talking to Beevers over a free transfer move to Essex.
However, Ian McParland has today been rumoured by the Lincolnshire Echo to be looking at hijacking Colchester's bid to bring Beevers to Meadow Lane. Beevers got man of the match as the Imps left Meadow Lane with three points last season, and his no nonsense defending may have impressed the Magpies' manager. City had been hoping to keep hold of Beevers, but Peter Jackson has been unable to persuade him to sign a new deal and it now looks inevitable he will be moving on, possibly to Meadow Lane.
