Not long left for Thor

Despite seeing his side rocket to the top of the League Two table, Thordarson has not ruled-out making anymore additions before the window shuts on Wednesday night.

The Notts County manager has been linked with a loan move for his son, Stoke's Toddi Gudjohnsen, for the second time since taking over the reins at Meadow Lane.

The talented Icelandic midfielder is something of an outcast at Stoke, though his wages are still far beyond the realms of what the Magpies can afford. A loan move, with the Midlands club paying a large percentage of his earnings, could suit all parties.

Deeney: Uncertain future
However, it is not so much players coming into Meadow Lane as going out where the real action could take place.

It's in goal that remains the real concern, with Saul Deeney's long-running saga still unresolved.

The Magpies could eventually opt to simply release the Irishman, thus waiving their right to a compensation package for the 22-year-old.

This would allow Thordarson to finalise the permanent signature of Shaun Marshall, who is currently on a non-contract basis and cannot sign permanent terms until Deeney is off the books.

A last-minute loan switch to Bristol City still seems the most likely option if the want-away stopper is to make the switch ahead of the deadline.

Elsewhere, there is at least three more Notts County players still with unresolved futures ahead of the window closing.

Despite being in his testimonial season at the club, Ian Richardson's battle to earn himself one last permanent contract at Meadow Lane has attracted barely a murmur amongst the Magpies' faithful.

The 34-year-old, who managed the club for much of last campaign, is on a month-to-month contract that expires at the end of August.

He has previously been told by the club that, should he prove his fitness after a long-standing knee injury, he will be handed a fresh deal.

The defender played 90 minutes in a behind-closed-doors match last week, but there has thus far been no announcement as to his future.

Thordarson has also been keen to shift out-of-favour duo Tony Scully and Matty Williams out of the club for the past few weeks.

However, despite fleeting interest for both from a handful of League Two clubs, neither have received any concrete offers from league clubs and seem likely to stay at the club, unless a short-term move to a non-league club can be agreed.

With so many unresolved issues to be sorted, tomorrow promises to be an interesting day for Notts County supporters, who are still recovering from yesterday's thrilling 3-2 derby win over Mansfield Town.
