Matthew Hamshaw will return the right-wing for tomorrow's clash with Chester after shaking off a dead leg.
Jonathan Forte replaced the tricky winger at half-time last weekend against Lincoln City leaving the Magpies much less enterprising going forward.
"Hammy started training yesterday and that is a massive boost for us because we missed him when he went off last week," explained Ian McParland to the club's official website.
His return will prove to be a boost because a handful of players have been rated as doubtful.
Experienced defensive duo Jamie Clapham and Michael Johnson are both struggling with calf injuries, whilst Adam Tann is recuperating from a flu virus.
Russell Hoult (shoulder) remains out and Stephen Hunt has yet to recover from an ankle sufficiently enough to be included in the squad.
