With Notts beating QPR at the weekend, The Magpies can have every confidence of picking up points in their next 3 games when they take on Tranmere, Barnsley & Plymouth before the year is out.
"When you look at the Division Two table, it is incredibly tight," Nicholson told the Evening Post.
"I know we have only won twice at home this season, which isn't great.
"But perhaps beating QPR, particularly in the manner that we did, can exorcise that ghost.
"A couple more wins would probably see us climb into mid-table.
"When you look at Division Two, it really is incredibly tight.
"I am not suggesting we should be thinking about catching them up yet but if we can get into the safety of mid-table, then we can start thinking about moving up from there." He added.
