New Takeover Bid!

Last updated : 26 February 2002 By Paul Berry
The bid, announced on Radio Nottingham could finally see an end to the rancour and the bickering that have plagued the club since Albert Scardino failed to raise the money to complete the takeover of the club.

The failure of the bid divided Notts County fans in to two camps. Many fans see Derek Pavis as a white knight returning to rescue the club from Storrie and Scardino's mismanagement.

Other fans led by the Supporters of Notts Action Group, SNAG, see Pavis as responsible for the club's dire financial position.

It was Pavis after all who got the club it to its current financial position, which has not worsened considerably since the start of the season.

It was also Pavis who is calling in the club's loans. Pavis lent almost 3 million pounds to the club during his reign, and it his decision to call in those loans that led directly to the failure of the current takeover bid.

The 73 year-old now has three choices. Either continue as chairman, put the club in to administration or sell the club to another consortium.

One thing for sure is that Albert Scardino is not going to resign from the board without a fight. The American has invested 1.5 million pounds in the club and will need to be bought out.

Personal comment:

As a founding member of SNAG, I hope that this matter is concluded in the best interest of Notts County Football Club as quickly as possible. I also hope that Mr Pavis finally gets his wish to retire in the sun.

I also believe that Albert Scardino has acted openly and in good faith throughout the whole affair. Mr Scardino is continuing to make himself to supporters and is set to be interviewed by NottsCounty-Mad.

Mr Storrie has let the club down badly and deserves the condemnation of everyone involved.
