New boss to be unveiled

The Magpies board finalised their five-man shortlist for the position from hundreds of applications on Monday and have already interviewed four of the five candidates. The fifth and final candidate will go in-front of the board tomorrow in a bid to make a late dash for the job.

The club will then make a decision as to who will take the hotseat, with a Press Conference expected on Monday - depending on how quickly personal terms can be agreed.

McParland: Strong support
"We hope that by this weekend we will be in a position to know who the new manager is," Chief Executive Geoff Davey told the official website.

"An announcement could be made Monday, or - at the very latest - Tuesday."

Ian McParland, Danny Wilson, Keith Curle and Mick Harford have all been strongly linked with the position that was vacated by Gudjon Thordarson two weeks ago today.

McParland narrowly beat-off strong competition from former MK Dons boss Wilson to win the NCM poll, asking who the fans want to see get the job and the former Notts player remains the favourite for the job.

Davey today ruled-out former Exeter boss Alex Inglethorpe for the job.

Inglethorpe was rumoured to have been interviewed by the board for the position, but the bright young boss is thought to have been offered the hotseat at MK Dons, as well as a coaching job at Premiership Tottenham Hotspur.

Russell Slade and Steve Parkin, other names linked with the vacancy, have also been ruled-out.

Former Magpies boss Slade has been unveiled as the new manager at League One Yeovil Town, while the Magpies have strongly-denied reports of an approach for Rochdale chief Parkin.

Thordarson, meanwhile, has been linked with a return to Scandanavia in the form of Swedish outfit Helsingborgs. The Icelander has also had discussions with three other English clubs.
