NCM team of the weekend

Last updated : 10 March 2008 By Gary Moss
Goalkeeper:
Jonny Brain, Macclesfield Town. It will be only a tiny consolation for the Silkmen keeper to be included in any team of the day but despite his sides late defeat at Brentford, he is worthy of his place. He pulled off a string of fine saves to keep Town in with a chance of snatching a point at Griffin Park only to be beaten three minutes into stoppage time. He was helpless and his defence will have to protect him more if Macc are to avoid the drop.

Defender:
Phil Bolland, Wrexham. Brian Little snapped up Bolland from opponents Chester in the January transfer window and he had the last laugh today. A sterdy display provided the platform for Wrexham to beat their local rivals 2-0 and renew hopes of survival. He was frozen out of the side with the Blues but he certainly proved he is no dud here.

Defender:
Michael Rose, Stockport County. The Hatters defender scored a spectacular free-kick to help his side come from behind to beat Bradford. His curling effort was an absolute cracker and for that alone he deserves the recognition. Neat and tidy throughout but delievered when it looked like for the most part it was not going to be County's afternoon.

Defender:
Sean O'Hanlon, MK Dons. He has taken the Dons' armband in the absence of Keith Andrews and has not once looked out of place. This was an important game for Paul Ince's men at Grimsby and it was vital they won it with Peterborough in red hot form. A thumping header from O'Hanlon did the damage but to keep a clean sheet against the in-form Mariners is also an achievement.

Midfielder:
Matt Bloomfield, Wycombe Wanderers. A simple but effective display from the Chairboys middle man. He sat deep and made the hosts tick in an impressive 2-0 win over title hopefuls Darlington. He set up Leon Knight for the opening goal with a deep free-kick and always seemed to control the tempo of the game. His contribution should not be overlooked.

Midfielder:
Colin Cameron, MK Dons. Star man in the Dons' narrow win at Blundell Park. His testing corner set up the goal and that was not all he contributed. Cameron ran the show in an efficient away display on Friday night.

Midfielder:
Gary Jones, Rochdale. His name will haunt Billy Dearden. A virtuoso display has to be a factor in his fall from the Stags managers job. He tore Town to shreads, scoring twice making the Mansfield midfield look sluggish at best. First to everything and always looking for the killer pass. Great creative presence.

Midfielder:
Lloyd Kerry, Chesterfield. The loanee from Championship side Sheffield United ticked all the necessary boxes in this 4-1 hammering of Lincoln City. Twice netted, punishing slack defending from the Imps. Always aware of what was going on around him and looked like a higher league player dropping into League Two.

Striker:
Aaron McLean, Peterborough United. Another goal to his impressive season tally. He also turned provider for Craig Mackail-Smith in Posh's 3-2 win at Dagenham. Classy.

Striker:
Leon Knight, Wycombe Wanderers. Another in the mix for one incident alone. A superb over-head kick pathing the way for a great win against the Quakers. He has settled into life at Adams Park with ease.

Striker:
Andy Bishop, Bury. Two vital goals in a crucial 2-1 win at home to Morecambe. He is the saving grace for the Shakers and he proved it again here. His eye for goal is something a lot of sides at the bottom will be unable to match.
