NCM August Player of the month: Richard Butcher

Last updated : 04 September 2007 By Gary Moss
In his first month at Meadow Lane, Butcher notched up three goals and has been nominated as NCM's player of the month with a majority 61.0% of the votes.

In what has been a largely disappointing opening month for the club, with the Magpies failing to register a win, his goals have at least preserved the

County's unbeaten status.

Butcher has three times been on the scoresheet in his first three games, twice rescuing a draw late on.

He looks to have continued this form into September too, scoring three minutes from time to salvage a point against newcomers Morecambe on Saturday.

The middle man's performances may not have captured the imagination of all the Notts fans but his knack of scoring crucial goals has at least gone down well.

His eagerness to get into the box and chip in have saved the Magpies from what otherwise would have been classed as a 'crisis' start to the new season.

In second place, came new full back Paul Mayo with just 16.9% of the votes.

The ex-Lincoln man put in some solid performances in August showing just the kind of fight needed to lift County out of League Two.

Neil MacKenzie came in third closely behind with 11.7% support.

Some stirring displayings didn't go un-noticed but were not as well thought of as the vital goals contributed by clinical Butcher.

With no strikers even making the short list for this months poll, it is clear what the Magpies need to work on.

Goal scoring will be vital if Notts are to climb the League Two ladder.
