NCM award Accrington Stanley striker Paul Mullin Player of the Weekend after grabbing a crucial goal to help the minnows snatch a win over the highly fancied Wycombe.

Stanley, widely tipped to face the drop back to non-legaue this season had all the odds stacked against them this weekend as they travelled to Adams Park.

Mullin...Specialises in vital Stanley goals
But in typical fashion the Lanacshire club dug in deep to hustle for a result.

Stern defending kept Accrington in the game but a poachers finish from club veteran Paul Mullin just before the hour was enough to hand them a dream start to the campaign.

Mullin battled hard all game up top receiving little service as Stanley tried to defend their clean sheet.

Isolated up top, chances were few and far between but when one came along, Mullin was on hand to finish. A true eye for goal.

Mullin, 33, netted 16 times last season as they scrapped against relegation, ut Saturday's could still be the most important goal of his Stanley career so far.

You would be hard stretched to find a football followe backing Stanley to beat the drop this year but a morale boasting win over a play-off pushing side will do wonders for their confidence.

A goaless draw would have been an achievement in itself but to go their and grab a win, thanks to a Mullin's strike will breathe confidence into the squad.

They face Darlington at the Fraser Eagle next weekend and you wouldn't bet against them fighting the drop again as they show again their grit and determination to maintain their Football League status.
