Mills Issues Warning

Gary Mills today asked his players to show confidence. He has warned his Notts County players that to pull clear of the relegation zone.

"It was as if, when QPR went 2-1 up on Saturday, the lads did not believe they could come back into it a second time," said Mills in the Nottingham Evening Post.

"They did not have the belief in themselves. And that is what is costing us. I don't know why it is. The club has struggled for a couple of seasons and perhaps that plays a part. But that is in the past."

Mills still has no doubt that Notts do not have anything to be scared of in Division Two, after putting up some brave and battling performances in recent games which have all been against sides challenging for promotion.

Mills has also issued a stern warning to all his players that they must take responsibility for themselves and learn to be more confident. He went on to say, commenting on the performance at QPR on Saturday:

“I don't think QPR were any better than us. I don't think we had anything to be scared of."

Praised by Mills..............
Mills believed that when Andy Parkinson scored the equaliser at Loftus Road would lead to Notts going on to win the game. But poor defending led to two more goals from QPR.

Mills simply commented: “Our defending was not good enough for two of the three goals.”

Talking overall about Saturday’s performance;

“I think if we had managed to hold on for a little longer, we probably would have won.
They were on the back of three defeats and the pressure would have been on them.
It was just a simple matter of marking. Given the position the club is in, we should be desperate to clear the ball out of the box.”

And with Ian Richardson suspended for next weeks’ trip to Bournemouth, it has left Mills with a selection headache. He wants consistency amongst the back four, but so far has not been able to create this due to injuries and continual suspensions.

“We are chopping and changing and it doesn’t help.” acknowledged Mills.

One replacement for Ian Richardson next Saturday came in for some heavy criticism from manager Mills. Tony Barras, who was left out on Saturday is simply not fit enough to show commitment, with Mills concluding; “I want people who want to give everything for this club, but you can’t do that if you’re not fit, which Tony presently Tony isn’t.”
