Mills: I will NOT quit

Notts now seem to be in an impossible situation. The board claim they cannot afford to payoff both Mills and his assistant Darrion Gee, but Mills, unlike his predecessor Billy Dearden, seems unprepared to waive his payoff by handing in his resignation.

A growing band of supporters have been calling for Mills' head in recent weeks, culminating in the majority of the 1,800 travelling fans making their feelings clear during Saturday's shambolic 3-1 derby defeat against Mansfield.

And, while Mills and his assistant have both admitted the fans calling for their resignation does hurt, the Notts gaffer has said he will not grant their wishes.

Instead, the under-fire boss has turned on the players for their lack of passion, saying three of them will be put on the transfer-list today.

"I am not going to quit, that is not my style," Mills told the NEP. "I am going to continue to do my job no matter what. I will not walk away.

"But I am not going to sit here and not do anything about what we saw on Saturday.

"It was not acceptable and it is my job to do something about it, so that is what I am doing.

"If the players we have are not doing it, then we will find some who will.

"If they haven't got the passion to play for this club, we will find people who have.

"But to bring players in, I am going to have to get rid of a few first. So I will be putting three players on the transfer list today.

"I will announce who they are when I have spoken to them."

As yet, no announcement to the identity of the players has been made, though, funnily enough, at least one, if not two, of the three may not have even been involved during Saturday's debacle.

Mills signed off the interview by saying he would not change his style of management, despite the club languishing near the bottom of League Two.

"I am not going to change the way I do things," he said. "From day one, since I became manager, I have been passionate about making this club a success.

"In fact, I have been that way since I first played for the club.

"I really care about making this club a success, I just wish that the players shared my passion."

It's time for the players to show that passion, starting tonight at home to Darlington at Meadow Lane. However, it is also time Mills took some responsibility for what has been some quite diabolical performances of late. Part of his job his to motivate the players.
