Mills Hails Team As Pathetic

Last updated : 17 March 2004 By Joanna Walker
Mills was not a happy manager after the antics in the first half at Nene Park last night, which saw him at half time make a double substitution – taking off Darren Caskey and Simon Baldry and replacing them with Ian Baraclough and Tony Scully – though Mills could’ve taken off any of the starting 11.

"The first half performance cost us, we were really hopeless and I told the lads that at the break and that is why we are down there because performances like that cost us and it is not acceptable or good enough and it was absolutely pathetic." Mills conceded in his post match comments to the Club’s Official Website.
Scored The Only Notts Goal

Despite coming out stronger in the second half, which saw Tony Scully restore some pride in the Notts side by scoring on 62 minutes, it was not enough to cancel out such a poor display in the first half.

Mills conceded in his comments to the Club’s Official Site, that maybe his team selection wasn’t spot on but reiterates he cannot be blamed for poor performances from individual players – rightly so, as the manager cannot be blamed for players’ performances on the pitch.

"I had to make changes at half-time, perhaps I didn't get my team selection spot on and I take the blame for that, but I cannot be blamed for players not being at their best, pathetic and simply not good enough and I cannot express that enough and I apologise to the fans enough for that first half performance. The second half performance was too little too late."

Mills also apologised to the travelling 881 Notts fans by saying; “I would like to apologise to everybody connected with the club for the first-half performance. We had a fantastic following but that first half just wasn't acceptable. We were well off the pace, absolutely hopeless, rubbish.” as he told the Nottingham Evening Post after the match.

The Notts boss accepted that he will have to have a long hard think regarding team

Mills - "We Were Pathetic"
selection for Saturday’s crunch ‘6 pointer’ with local rivals Chesterfield at Meadow Lane.

I, for one, hope that Mills gives the due punishment to the whole team after witnessing the worse performance since Gary Mills took over at Meadow Lane and hope that the team – every single one in the starting 11 comes out at 3pm on Saturday and gives 110% for club and pick up the much needed 3 points against the seemingly in form Chesterfield side.
