Mills given vote of confidence

Thompson, the Supporters Trust's representitive on the board, insisted that it is not yet time to sack Mills, despite the club's diabolical start to the season.

Notts currently lie 20th in Division Three, and have failed to win a game at home in six attempts.

Despite this, Thompson insists that there's no need in changing the manager just yet, drawing on old boss Billy Dearden as the comparison.

"Making managerial changes is a very big decision and we continue to back the manager and his ability to turn things round." he told the NEP.

"We cannot simply change the manager because things are not going well. That may not be the best solution.

"Look how many people were calling for Billy Dearden's head. He went and things have not exactly improved, have they?"

However, the director did say that results must improve soon, not only from a footballing perspective, but a financial one too.

"If things do not improve there is no question we will have to take action.

"The club simply cannot afford to see crowds going down. We do not have the finances to cope.

"This is a crucial season for us. We may have cut the wage bill but we are still paying for a lot of players who were here previously. Even if we were doing well, we knew it would be tight."

Thompson, however, said that the Board, the manager and even the players would pull their finger's out and turn things around, stating: "We are all doing what we can to turn things round."

Though this is the first time a member of the board has publicly addressed Mills' position, it is certainly not what many supporters would have like to have heard, though it's hardly a surprise.

Mills' D day could well come in just under two weeks time when The Magpies travel to Field Mill to take on local neighbours Mansfield.
