Mills: Effort Was Tremendous

Notts failed to pick up three vital match points against a poor Owls side, with neither side playing particularly well, but Notts had a fair crack of the whip with Paul Heffernan, Ian Richardson and schoolboy David McGoldrick all going close.
Richo's Attempt went Wide Of The Net

Despite the game being pretty slow and dull, the improvement was clearly visible from Saturday’s performance at Colchester United with the back four looking a lot stronger.

Mills was pleased with the overall performance of from the lads and he told the Nottingham Evening Post; “We didn't deserve anything at
Colchester on Saturday but, if we play as we did in the second half today, we can turn the corner. The effort was tremendous.”

Most notably, Mills was pleased with the second half performance after a less than impressive start to the game (nothing unusual there then!) as the Magpies came out a lot stronger in the second half and created more chances towards goal.

Mills told the Club’s Official Website after the game; “We got the ball down a bit more in the second half and began to play a bit better than we did in the first half, but it just wasn’t to be and we couldn’t get a goal. We just didn’t quite get that break we needed.

We had a good chance near the end when Paul Heffernan broke through but he shot early and that chance went. He should have taken it on and shot, but it’s gone now and there is nothing we can do to change that.”

Mills then went on to sum up exactly what he thought of the past few days over, what is billed as, a vital Easter programme and I think probably *most* supporters, I think will agree with the following;

“It hasn’t been a good Easter programme for us, having taken just one point from two vital games. We were shocking at Colchester, and today we probably just edged it but just couldn’t grab a goal.”

Mills, along with the rest of us, knows that Saturday’s trip up north to Hartlepool will not only be a long trip, but also a very important game as for Notts to have any chance of survival, they HAVE to win and the three match points to keep any hope of staying in Division Two alive.

All in all, it has been a poor weekend for
Notts County at this crucial time. Let’s hope that we can get one over on Hartlepool on Saturday. See you all there!
