Mills defiant (again) as Notts tumble...again

After the Magpies were unlucky to come away from Meadow Lane with a 2-1 in reverse in Yeovil’s favour Saturday, the Magpies boss has come out to defend his side’s shortcomings and lay down a gauntlet to the fans, blazing: ‘Write us off at your peril’. The brassy outbreak comes after doubts were raised, albeit four games in to the season, over the quality of the signings made by Gary Mills over the summer months after the Magpies opened their season with two draws and two defeats.

But after his side, with Glynn Hurst a major culprit, missing a host of bread and butter chances, Mills has hailed the spirit of his side and promised the Magpies fans of a full-circle turn in fortune before too long – still refusing to rule-out accomplishing their promotion ambitions.

Mills told the Nottingham Evening Post: "We will not play better than that this season. If there are any fans or anyone else who left the match believing that we have not played well then, I'm sorry, but they are just wrong."

"If people are now saying that we are not a good side then I have to say that I totally disagree with them. In fact, I think we will struggle to match that first-half performance again this season. We were just superb. Outstanding, in fact,"

"We created so many chances, but our problem was exactly the same - we couldn't put the ball in the back of the net."

"I feel as though I am saying all the same things as I was last week, but there is a reason for that."

"We talked all week about turning chances into goals and yet again we didn't do it" he conceded, before ending the interview on a chillingly optimistic note, "I don't want people to get down or negative. Nobody is going to let their heads drop - people write us off at their peril."
