Mills cools Ayres interest

The collapse of the move comes just days after County were reported to be initially interested in Tamworth's Lee Ayres - an individual Mills was hopeful of bringing to the club. But yesterday, Mills came out to confess a move for the former Kidderminster trainee is very doubtful, if not impossible.

It is said County have, in fact, placed a bid on the table for the young defender's services although this consisted of an agreement entitling the Conference side to loan moves for Notts' youth players, and not a payment. However, the Conference side have turned down the proposal, insisting that a cash pay-out would be the common ground if any sort of deal was to be struck.

"It's a shame because some of the youth lads would have gained valuable experience by being out on loan and we would have landed a good player in Lee." Mills told the club's Official Site.

"We would've liked to have given Lee another attempt to play League football," he added "but we cannot afford to spend any money, especially money we don't have."

Elsewhere, a date for the Carling Cup First Round tie at Valley Parade has been set for Wednesday 25th August, with a 7:45 having been scheduled.
