Mildenhall was 2nd choice to Stuart Garden this season until the end of November when he came into the team at Blackpool and didn't look back with a number of superb performances which have now made him a favourite with the supporters.

He sits out the rest of the season now with the injury, and admitted although he is disappointed, it's part and parcel of being a footballer.

"Injuries always seem to happen at the wrong time," Mildenhall told the Evening Post.

"It's part and parcel of football.

"I have been playing well and going through one of my best spells. You have to accept injuries and get on with it."

He played with the injury during last weeks 5-0 loss at Swindon, but following that game he was off to see the specialist to find out the extent of the damage.

"I put a heavy strap on it and managed to get through the game," Added Mildenhall.

"I went to see a specialist on Wednesday and I have ruptured the ligament inside of my thumb which keeps the thumb in place.

"It is good it was picked up really early because it is a ligament that keeps the thumb stable and in its socket. If I was to play, I could end up with the thumb coming out of the socket. It's only held in place at the moment by the skin.

"I'm having the operation on Monday and I will be in plaster for four weeks so I won't have any mobility. That means it is the end of the season for me."
