The 6ft 5” current number one goalkeeper Mildenhall looks likely to be out for anywhere up to two months after fracturing an eye socket when he crashed into a goalpost during the match on Saturday against Barnsley.

Mills told the NEP: “Steve's injury is a nasty one and, although it is a little uncertain yet, I think we are probably looking at him being out for around two months.”

“It is a blow but I have every faith in Stuart Garden and I had no fears at all about bringing him off the bench.

“He has impressed me in training, with his confidence and enthusiasm and he is a more-than-capable goalkeeper.”

Garden had played just once ahead of Saturday's game, on the opening day hammering at Bristol City, where he firmly played his part in their 5-0 win.

Saul Deeney is Notts' other senior goalkeeper, but he looks like he'll have to wait for his chance a little longer yet.
