Mildenhall Pushing For First Team Place

Fox believes Mildenhall's form in the reserves has been very impressive, the keeper has conceeded 1 goal in 3 games and also saved a penalty against Mansfield, and is really pressing for first team action now.

Mildenhall has been working hard on his agility and spring over the last few months, and Fox has seen huge progress from the giant keeper and is keen to show Dearden that he is ready and waiting should Garden get injured or be dropped from the starting 11.

The 6ft 5 inch goalkeeper arrived last summer from Swindon Town for £150,000 and was signed as Notts' number 1 goalkeeper and also had the job of filling Darren Ward's shoes. After some excellent early performances where he saved a penalty against Cambridge and scored from inside his own half against Mansfield, his form dipped and he was dropped at the end of January.

Scotsman Stuart Garden stepped in and gave some memorable displays, playing a vital role in guiding Notts to safety with Midenhall not getting a look in. However, Garden's form has not been as consistant this season and despite some superb saves he has not entirely made the position his own like he did last season.

Boss Billy Dearden said last week he was considering throwing Mildenhall back into the first team, following a dodgy display by Garden in Notts' 3-2 defeat at Port Vale. However, Garden it was who was between the sticks against Cardiff and gave a good display and had no chance with Cardiff's goal.

Garden knows now he has to be on his toes and capture the outstanding form of last season soon, or Mildenhall could be back in goal.
