Mildenhall moves on

Mildenhall's contract was officially terminated by mutual consent yesterday evening and his deal with League One strugglers Oldham will now be completed today, after a last-minute hitch had delayed the deal going through.

The then highly-rated stopper joined Notts from Swindon for £150,000 in 2001. Some of his performances at the club have been outstanding, not least in the memorable 4-2 defeat at Chelsea in the Carling Cup last season.

However, his form dipped towards his later days at Meadow Lane and he was publicly criticised by the ever tactful then-manager Gary Mills after an error on the opening day of the season against Chester City. That turned out to be the 25-year-old's last game for the club.

In all, the giant keeper made 90 appearences for the club. He will probably be best remembered, though, for actually SCORING a goal, when he fired in a long-range (the length of the pitch) effort during the 4-3 League Cup win over Mansfield shortly after his arrival.

NCM wish Steve all the best.
