He denied Wigan time after time in the first half, but was finally beaten when Ellington's shot hit the post and Tony Dinning tapped home.
"There were a couple of saves he made that were simply world class," Dearden told the Evening Post.
"He was the one player who can come away from that game with any credit.
"If it wasn't for him, the score could have been worse, much worse.
"Some of the saves he made were unbelievable. He cannot be blamed for any of the goals."
