Midfielder cancels contract

Creative midfielder, Neil Mackenzie has left the club after mutually agreeing to terminate his contract.

Since joining the club from Scunthorpe United in 2006, he has failed to reach the lofty standards expected of him.

The 32-year-old turned out 38 times for the Magpies, scoring six goals, before being shipped out on loan to Kidderminster Harriers and Port Vale.

His departure appears to signal that he has found another club, but the more interesting aspect of the news suggests that funds may now be available for Ian McParland to bring fresh faces to Meadow Lane.

A striker seems to be the main priority and movement can be expected within the next couple of weeks, prior to the transfer window slamming shut.
