Mendes' pledge for more goals

Mendes' confident finish over Paul Lambert's Wycombe outfit at the weekend meant he became the first of Notts' brand new strike force to open their accounts for the club.

Lawrie Dudfield, Jason Lee, Tcham N'Toya and Mendes were all brought to the Magpies by new boss Steve Thompson over the summer, along with 10 other new buys.

And, though the Magpies remain unbeaten after the first three games of the season, the lightening-quick striker (left) has admitted that there is still set to be much improvement from the club's all-new strikeforce.

"I think there's plenty more to come from us once we get to know each other better," Mendes told the club's official website.

"That's certainly true up front because as strikers we have a lot to work on and need to learn more about each other and the way we play.

"There are four of us up there fighting for a place and we're still learning about each other.

"But we are gelling together, and quickly."

Though his goal at the weekend took him ahead of his striking team-mates, Mendes has impressed the Notts faithful with a string of lively performances, including in pre-season.

Meanwhile, Dudfield faces a fight to hold onto his starting place for Saturday's trip to Rochdale. The striker - signed from rivals Boston Utd - is the only one of the quartet to have started all three of the club's League Two matches.

But, after being substituted early-on in all of the fixtures, Thompson is considering dropping the 26-year-old marksman for the trip to Spotland.

After missing the last two games with an achilles injury, much-travelled targetman Lee could be back in contention after an excellent debut at Lincoln City.

Should he still be missing, N'Toya could make his full debut for the club after emerging from the substitute's bench in all of the club's early fixtures.

A young Notts County side, featuring Saul Deeney, Liam Needham, Stef Frost and Jake Sheridan, were defeated 1-0 by Coventry City earlier in the week.
