Experienced Steve started his career with Swansea City, after progressing through the youth ranks he turned professional in July 1990, and had just over five years at The Vetch before moving to Huddersfield Town for £275,000 in November 1995.

He made 215 appearances for Swansea during his stay with The Swans, finding the net on just one occasion before his move to Huddersfield.

Steve was a regular throughout his eight years with The Terriers, performing at right back, centre half and left back during those years, and was handed the captains armband for many a season.

He did have a brief loan spell with Birmingham City during the 2000/2001 season, in a loan swap deal that saw Peter Ndlovu head to The McAlpine Stadium. Steve made his Birmingham debut against Wolves in a 1-0 win, and after one more victory and two losses he was back at The McAlpine and back in the blue and white stripes of Huddersfield Town,

Steve doesn't have a reputation for being much of a goalscorer, infact he has only scored five goals during his career and guess who has last goal was against? Notts County! Steve fired home Huddersfield's opening goal in a 2-2 draw with Notts at The McAlpine Stadium from 35 yards in November 2001.

He has 16 International caps to his name with Wales, with his last performance for the Welsh back in September 2001 when they lost 3-2 to Norway in Oslo.

The 31 year old defender was a regular in Huddersfield's team last season, before their financial situation meant that they had to reluctantly let Steve join Cardiff in February 2003 on a free transfer, for whom he made four appearances before being released following their promotion in the summer.

Steve was a popular member of the Huddersfield squad, and at £275,000 it proved to be a real snip for a player who made 293 appearances for The Terriers.
