McGoldrick at the unveiling
The completion of the deal, which was originally announced to be taking place earlier this month, was officially completed today with McGoldrick being revealed as Paul Sturrock's latest signing. McGoldrick travels south to join up with Leon Best, a personal friend of David's who made the move to St. Mary's prior to the 2002/03 season, as McGoldrick became the second player to trade the black and white of Notts County for the red and white of Southampton in two-years.

And having a number of Premiership clubs racing to secure his signature, McGoldrick, who, like many his age, will be expecting his GCSE results in the immediate future, but, in the meantime, his major CV pointers being the four first-team appearances he notched up whilst with the Magpies. That, along with a Midlands Youth Cup triumph and an impressive goal-scoring record in the reserve and youth set-ups, helping to establish quite a reputation for McGoldrick at this level - something he, like the coaching staff who've agreed to take him on, will be hoping to carry over to his new club.

Elsewhere, in the reserve side McGoldrick left behind, the reserve outfit were soundly beaten 5-0 at Meadow Lane, Steve Mildenhall in particulary poor-form for the Magpies' second-string. Full report to follow...
