Mayo makes local switch

Stag: Mayo has signed for Mansfield Town.
Paul Mayo has become the second player inside a week to mutually terminate his contract with Notts County.

After seeing himself fall down the pecking order behind Jamie Clapham and Stephen Hunt, the left-back decided to search elsewhere for first-team football.

Notts' boss, Ian McParland explained to the club's official site: "With Jamie Clapham signing a new contract which takes him to the end of next season, Paul realised that his chances would be limited and has chosen to make a fresh start. We wish him every success in the future."

Several deals were offered to the former Lincoln and Watford man - whose contract was set to expire in the summer - but he decided that signing a three-month deal with local rivals, Mansfield Town was the most sensible move.

He joins a host of former Magpies players at Field Mill, including Gary Silk, Mark Stallard and Matthew Somner.

Steve Thompson brought Mayo to County in 2007 and he went on to make 48 appearances.
