Match ratings v Bournemouth

Russell Hoult 7 - Made an impressive save in each half, particularly one down to his left early on, where he reacted sharply to guide the ball around the post. Commanded his area extremely well, gathering loose balls and plucking aerial deliveries from the air effortlessly. The giant stopper had no

chance with the goal.

Jason Beardsley 5 - Started brightly but faded along with Notts' dominance of the game. He will have to work on his marking, because it was once again a finish at his back post that cost Notts a goal. The young Derby defender looked a decent threat going forward, overlapping effectively on a number of occasions to support Matthew Hamshaw.

Michael Edwards 7 - Failed to impose himself on the game early on, but soon converted this into the accomplished performance we expect from him. Once settled, he never looked troubled by the Bournemouth attack, dealing with the strikers comfortably, beating them to the majority of high balls. He will be disappointed not to score for the second time in two weeks, with his stinging effort somehow denied.

Michael Johnson 7 - Won everything in the air and was very composed in possession - opting to play a simple pass with ease, rather than the longer option that others may have taken. Gave away a couple of needless free-kicks, but his performance was otherwise spotless. Hopefully the knock he picked up in the second period is not too serious.

Paul Mayo 5 - It was a patchy game for the under-fire full-back. One moment he would produce something assured, only to follow it up with a moment of madness. On a positive note, he kept his opposite number at bay for the majority of the match, even conceding fouls to prevent attacks. His long throws also caused problems for the visitors' rear-guard at times.

Matthew Hamshaw 7 - The former Mansfield winger's passing was spot on, demonstrating fantastic range and vision. Accurately switching play and producing some dangerous set-pieces, Hamshaw played a part in a number

of Notts' best opportunities. Rarely giving away possession, the right-sided player is excelling in County's predominantly grounded style.

Jay Smith 7 - Linked up play well in the middle, turning sharply and spreading the ball wide with a comfort that was absent from his game last season. Smith also created Notts' goal with a beautifully lofted pass from the right. He could be guilty of looking for the killer ball too often, however, with numerous floated passes drifting harmlessly through to the goalkeeper.

Richard Butcher 6 - This season's top-scorer will feel that he should have added to his goal tally, having missed two great opportunities. Starting brightly, Butcher was holding the midfield together alongside Smith but drifted out of the game for large chunks.

Myles Weston 6 - Despite a couple of brilliant moments, it was a relatively quiet game for the winger, who like Butcher went missing for lengthy spells. When given the opportunity, however, he drifted past the full-back with ease. The ex-Charlton man nearly got on the score-sheet, only to have his well-hit strike turned aside by the on-form Shwan Jalal in the Bournemouth goal.

Delroy Facey 6 - Won almost everything in the air and held the ball up strongly on a number of occasions, to allow others to push forward. Facey looked determined to get off the mark, unleashing two strikes early on, but failed to test the goalkeeper. It was a hard working performance by the big man - proving a handful for the Cherries' defence. His fitness - especially late on - still appears to be a bit of an issue, but that will come in time.

Jamie Forrester 8 (STAR MAN) - Looked a threat every time he got the ball, bringing others into play splendidly. Lincoln City's top-scorer last season capped off a fantastic showing with a brilliantly taken goal, crisply volleying a Smith cross into the far corner. He looks to be building a good understanding with Facey up front, reading his headers well.

Subs:

Adam Tann 6 - Recovering from a bad knock in the week, Tann put in a typical gutsy performance. Never shying in the tackle, he put in some tough challenges, and after a sterling performance in the week, it could be time for McParland to take another look at him.
