March Player of the Month

Michael Johnson has been named as Notts' March Player of the Month.

Johnson, 36, arrived back at the club in a shock move from Premiership Derby County, for his second Meadow Lane spell after he started his career at Meadow Lane.

He has proved a class act with faultless showings so far, and the returning

defender is clearly the current fans favourite and key to Notts' hopes of avoiding the drop.

Johnson picked up 49% of the votes, beating goalkeeper Russell Hoult, who came second with 37%.

That the candidates were the back five, including Hoult, who figured for the majority of a busy month, illustrated how well Notts had performed defensively, and indeed Hoult's net had been breached just twice all month.

That meant five clean sheets in a seven game month in which Notts won one, lost one and drew five. Johnson scored the only goal of the game in Notts' one win, a tap in over Rochdale.

That was his first ever Magpies goal, despite over 100 appearances for the club.

In third place was left-back Paul Mayo, with 6% of the votes while Mike Edwards polled 5%, and captain Adam Tann 3%.
