Notts County have started pre-season in great style, overcoming Olympia Ljubljana 2-1 in the first friendly of the Austrian tour.

Under orders: Ian McParland encouraged the wingers to attack the back post...
It took Matthew Hamshaw just two minutes to open his account for the Magpies, converting a Myles Weston cross at the back post.

Jay Smith doubled Notts' lead in the second half from close range in the torrential rain.

The Sloven
ian outfit did manage to grab a goal back in the dying minutes, with a Ljubljana striker looping the ball over Tim Sandercombe.

County gave all available players a run out, introducing a new look side in the second period.

Hamshaw, Jason Beardsley, Adam Nowland and Jamie Forrester all made their first appearances in the black and white stripes, as well as Greg Pearson, Ben Fairclough and Matthew Richards, who are all on trial.

Russell Hoult was of course absent with a leg injury but is hoping to be back in contention for the start of the new season.

Mike Edwards was also missing, as him and his wife are expecting a child shortly.

Notts' next opponents will be Wacker Burghausen on July 16. The venue, however, may be subject to change from the proposed venue in Seekirchen.
