Clive Platt looks set to join The Magpies on a free transfer from Third Division Rochdale, with the player delighted about the move.

"I've been to Notts County and we've sat down and agreed terms. I always wanted to see if I could play at a higher level, and with a move to Nottingham, I'll get the chance." The 25 year old forward told Rochdale's official website.

He insists he has not signed for Bristol Rovers, despite several reports in the press, and although he admits he did verbally agree terms with The Pirates, a move to Meadow Lane was too tempting to turn down.

"The Notts County manager, Billy Dearden impressed me with his ambition for the club and wanted me to join them. We've had talks and the club has put in a contract offer which I've accpeted, and as soon as the issue with administration is sorted out, I'll be signing." Added the striker.

He made 194 appearances and scored 36 goals for The Dale after signing for £100,000 in September 1999 following an impressive loan spell a few weeks before from Walsall which prompted The Dale to splash out a six figure fee on the tall forward.

Platt had started his career at The Saddlers, making 43 appearances and scoring 5 goals before departing to Spotland.

Should Platt join Billy Dearden's squad for next season, his arrival will cover the loss of Aussie striker Danny Allsopp, who joined Hull City in May, and the new boy will battle for a place up front with last season's top scorer Mark Stallard, the highly rated Irishman Paul Heffernan and Tony Hackworth.
