Magpies linked to Davies

The Mirror has today reported that Notts County are set to agree a deal with out of contract Shrewsbury Town midfielder Ben Davies, who was named in the League Two team of the season last term.

The 28 year-old started his career at hometown club Walsall, but failed to make an appearance before joining Kidderminster Harriers then Chester City. He became a firm favourite at the Deva Stadium, making 153 appearances for the club and bagging a Nationwide Conference winners' medal on the way, as well as being capped as captain of the Welsh semi-professional side. After a long spell with Chester he made a controversial free transfer move to local rivals Shrewsbury Town, where he has enjoyed a spell as captain and has scored 29 goals in 106 games.

Davies is out of contract at the Shrews, and has been linked with a move to a host of League One clubs, such as Leyton Orient and Millwall. However, The Mirror believes the prospective cash of potential new County owners Munto Finance Ltd. could persuade Davies to make the move to Meadow Lane.

Manager Ian McParland has also confirmed that he's spoken to the talented midfielder, stating that he is one of "many" players he has spoken to regarding a potential move to Meadow Lane, but also confirming that nothing has been agreed and denying the reports that a "lucrative" deal has been agreed.
