“We’ve got some really good youngsters coming through but if they want to train with the first team then they have to better than what the first team have got which is tough,” he said.
“But when you put them into a group against another group which is probably the same kind of age like Mansfield were and we come out 5-2 winners, it shows that we do have something.
“When they train in the first team they have to impress the manager playing against the seniors like Jon Stead and Kane Hemmings.
“That’s the big difference, the people they who they play and who they train against.
“They have to earn the right to train with the first team and they’ve got to be the best trainer for the manager to be able to pick them.”
