The move comes as a massive boost of confidence to the club’s supporters, who have witnessed a simply dire season of basement league football upon the Magpies’ unwanted return to League Two.

Despite interest from Northampton and Wycombe, Oakes is reportedly set to take a pay-cut to extend his residence at Meadow Lane. An admirable achievement in today’s footballing climate, I think you’ll agree.
An instant hit with Magpies fans, Oakes has netted five spectacular goals over the course of the season, as he continues to run a one-man goal of the season competition, as well as shirking off the ‘luxury’ tag that he was once tarnished.
Arguably the most naturally gifted individual at the club, it will put the Magpies in good stead for the forthcoming season, regardless of who is in charge of the club come August.
In stark contrast, however, the club are said to be stalling upon offering a contract to fellow midfield man, Paul Bolland.
The 25-year old, second only to Ian Richardson as the club’s longest serving player, has admitted he is keen to add to his seven-year turn with the Magpies should the opportunity arise.
Despite fans’ dividing opinions of Bolland, his desire and commitment have never come under question, and his performances this season – often out of his natural central midfield berth – go a long way to justifying his importance to the side.
Defender Kelvin Wilson – although not out of contract – ‘keeper Saul Deeney have both been offered new deals by the club, although neither have – as yet – agreed to slightly improved terms upon their current deals.
More news on all of the current contract dealings, as well as team news ahead of tomorrow's encounter, to be expected here on NCM.
