Notts County have today announced their first pre-season friendlies for the 09/10 season, all of which will take place at Meadow Lane within the space of six days in July. Ian McParland had previously said that agreements with the three clubs were 95% probable, but today the club have confirmed that Nottingham Forest, Derby County and a Liverpool XI will all be taking on the Magpies.
Nottingham Forest manager Billy Davies will bring his side over the River Trent on Saturday 25th July for a pre-season game that in recent years has at times spilled over into more than a friendly. It represents a u-turn for Davies who had decided to
cancel the game only a week ago. Former Notts player Kelvin Wilson will be on show for Forest, whilst Notts have former Reds John Thompson, Russell Hoult and Ben Fairclough. The sides have met in the two previous pre-seasons at Meadow Lane, with the visitors coming out on top both times, a trend the Magpies will be hoping to reverse this year.
Three days later Derby County and Nigel Clough are the visitors on Tuesday 28th July, with the Rams hoping to warm up for a better campaign in the Championship, and then on Friday July 31st a Liverpool XI visit for what is sure to be a crowd puller at Meadow Lane. It is expected the team will be made up of youngsters and fringe players, but nonetheless fans are sure to be excited about seeing their side go up against a side representing one of football's giants.
Prices are yet to be announced for the three friendlies, whilst it is expected that further games will be arranged in the near future.
