MacLaren was pinched from the Southend United youth set-up almost a year ago to become Gudjon Thordarson's right-hand man at Meadow Lane shortly after his appointment in mid-May.

Ross Mac: Shown the door
A former assistant manager at Aston Villa and Derby County during their Premiership years, MacLaren enjoyed one-year with the club, even taking charge of first team matters during Gudjon's short periods of leave during the season.

However, shortly before the final game of the season, things turned sour for MacLaren when he was placed on leave, with no news whatsoever coming from the club about this strange turn of events.

On a statement released on the club's official web-site this morning it emerged that MacLaren has been relieved of his duties with the club, with his current one-year deal at the ‘Lane expiring shortly.

If reports from BBC Radio Nottingham are anything to go by then it is also expected that the club may today reveal that part-time goalkeeping coach Steve Marcella has walked out on the club.
