Lincoln City v Notts County match ratings

Big Phil: The on-loan defender made some fine blocks.
Kevin Pilkington 6 - Got down well to his right to keep the game at 0-0 in the opening period and patrolled his area attentively. He punched convincingly on several occasions but still looked a little shaky when there was a few bodies surrounding him.

Phil Picken 7 - For a small man he certainly makes himself big at crucial moments. Notts were stretched at points and he came to the rescue with some fine blocks. He broke forward when frequently and had a couple of long-range efforts.

Michael Johnson 6 -
Started the game a little off the pace with a few shaky moments but grew in stature. Some clever defending had the crowd chanting his name throughout.

Michael Edwards 6 -
Gave fans a scare when he slipped late on allowing to Dany N'Guessan to break down the left. Apart from a couple of hiccups in possession he was largely effective, handling Ben Wright preventing him from settling on the ball.

Jamie Clapham 6 -
Won a couple of headers at the front post and showed great coolness in avoiding the long pass with some neat possession play. He drove forward when possible without really supporting Weston, who tended to venture inside more frequently than usual.

Matthew Hamshaw 7 -
It was sad to see the tricky winger removed at the break because he looked dangerous every time he had the ball at his feet and offered arguably Notts' best attacking options.

John Thompson 7 *STAR MAN* -
Used his defensive awareness wisely again at the back and offered variety going forward. He demonstrated that he could pass a ball long and short in addition to beating a player. Everyone thought he was going to score when he surged into the box, only to be denied

Star Man: Thompson was useful at both ends.
by a fine last ditch block.

Richard Butcher 6 -
Although his best ability is meant to be his shooting it was his determined battling in the centre that paid off. He harried well and dug in defensively. He failed to offer much going forward, however, despite appearing in some promising positions.

Myles Weston 7 -
Kept quiet for much of the game by his opposite number but when given the chance he was able to drive the team on. He put across a few teasing balls either side of the break but sadly nothing materialised.

Jamie Forrester 6 -
Provided an outlet with some neat control and link-up play. The former Imp played a part in most of the Magpies' first half moves and nearly scored with a clever turning volley. He seemed to tire after the break and was eventually withdrawn.

Delroy Facey 7 -
Made a few promising flick-ons but was largely quiet for the majority. He popped up where it mattered, though, capitalising on some defensive dithering to somehow squeeze the ball into the far left corner from an acute angle.

Subs:

Jonathan Forte 5 -
Failed to impose himself down the right. It would have been nice to see him use his pace when given the ball instead of looking to offload as soon as possible. He seemed far more comfortable when shifted up top, which is clearly his strongest position.

Ben Fairclough 5 -
Although lively he seemed afraid to try things in the short spell he was given. It would have been interesting to see him go at a player or speed the game up from a throw-in when the opportunity arose.
