Lambert faces pivotal Chairboys clash

Last updated : 31 August 2007 By Gary Moss
With the fourth weekend already upon us in the new Legaue Two campaign, the divisions new sides have started to settle into life in the fourth tier.

Morecambe's Sammy McIlroy scooped the August Manager of the month

award following their first Football League win as well Carling Cup scalps of Championship Preston and Wolves.

Rotherham and Chesterfield are starting to be noticed after wins aginst title favourites Peterborugh.

Brentford are getting their name about mainly due to Terry Bucther's post match optimism whilst arguably the biggest of the new sides, Bradford have yet to make their mark after some indifferent opening results.

And, Dagenham have been notcied for all the wrong reasons. Their nightmare 4-0 defeat at Chester leaves them bottom of the pack with it all to do.

With all sides back in action after Carling Cup games in mid-week, yet another precious three poinst are at stake.

Game of the Day: Chesterfield v Wycombe

What a massive game this could turn out to be for these two promotion chasing sides.

Despite starting with two draws, Chesterfield beat off Posh 3-2 last week and all of a sudden are being backed for big things with new striker Jack Lester

showing a keen eye for goal.

Wycombe narrowly lost out to Accrington Stanley on their first outing but have since notched up four points in their last two games.

After blowing out of the top seven late on last season, boss Paul Lambert knows his Chairboys must prove their staying power this time around.

Failure last season means many are already writing them off, but this could well work in their favour.

But, a top performance againt Bury last week showed they mean business. Consistency is the key; have they learned their lesson?

Saturday's trip to the Recreation Ground will be a good marker of how much this Wanderers side really can achieve.

A return to goal scoring form for main man Jermaine Easter would surely ease the pressure on Lambert too.

Chesterfield on the other hand, already occupy a play-off place and their first home win will merely confirm what the Legaue Two pundits already predict; they will be there or there abouts when it matters.

Winning may not mean everything so early in the season but confidence is infectious.

Win this and one of these sides will fancy their chances of success this season.

Prediction: Home win. Marginally too strong. 2-1

Elsewhere...

Posh will be hoping to bounce back from their back to back defeats as they travel to Accrington.

A leaky Posh defence has cost them six points already this season but their fire power should be too much for minnows Stanley this weekend.

Morecambe will be hoping to continue their fairy tale start to the season as they visit Meadow Lane.

Notts themselves are without a legaue win but must not under estimate the spirited Shrimps, f they wish to end that run.

Robins...'Hot and cold' Millers versus Chester
Manager of the month McIlroy will be hoping to spring another surprise against Steve Thompson's men.

As for Dagenham, things don't get too much easier as they host Lincoln who are starting to hit top form.

Bottom of the table and the fourth placed Imps up next, The Daggers are in desperate need of more quality.

Defeat looks on the cards again.

And finally, surprise pacakage Chester are at Rotherham as they look to prolong thier unbeataen streak.

The 'hot and cold' Millers clearly have the talent but have yet to convince they have the attitide to truly compete.

A win however will see them right in the thick of things at the top.
