The gloves are on: Hoult is nearly ready to fight for his place.
Long-term injury victim Russell Hoult is edging closer to fitness but will not be back in time for tomorrow's fixture with Accrington Stanley.

The sidelined stopper suffered a shoulder injury at the back end of last year, which has limited his appearances to just 20 this campaign.

Ian McParland revealed to the Nottingham Evening Post that he is hoping to return to action inside the next two weeks.

"His shoulder is better and he has to step his recovery up a gear now," he said.

"It was him who came to me and said he was looking to get back for the Bournemouth game, so he's quite positive.

"He's desperate to get involved again after being out for so long and it's good he will be available before the end of the season.

"He got injured on the first day of pre-season and then did his shoulder.

"It's taken longer than we expected, the specialist told us he would be back quicker.

"I hope he doesn't have the same bad luck next season that he has had with injuries this season, and we can get a good season out of him."

In other news, Adam Tann and Stephen Hunt picked up knocks in the disappointing midweek loss to Luton Town.

This means that the door could be opened for Michael Edwards to regain his spot at centre-back alongside the rested Michael Johnson.

Stanley also have a number of players out for their trip to Meadow Lane. Sean McConville (wrist), Chris King (thigh), Peter Murphy (knee) and former Magpie Leam Richardson (pelvis) are all injured.
