Jimmy Sirrel arrived at Meadow Lane in 1969 and in three separate spells as manager led The Magpies to promotion from Division Four all the way to the old First Division.

The sharp-witted Scot is regarded as the greatest manager ever to have held the post at Notts County, who were formed in 1864, and at 80 years of age, he still retains his inimitable sense of humour.

To commemorate his achievements at Meadow Lane and celebrate his 80th birthday, the Ex-Notts County Players' Association organised a special dinner, fittingly on Burns' Night, attended by friends and former colleagues of Jimmy's from the world of football.

Jimmy Sirrel - the great man
It was a glowing reflection of the esteem in which Jimmy is held that so many of them turned out to honour him, including former Notts County players such as Don Masson and ex-Magpies manager Howard Wilkinson, who was given his first coaching job by the man he presented with a commemorative vase on behalf of the LMA.

Congratulations Jimmy and best wishes from everybody at the LMA.
