Since being appointed Notts caretaker-boss back in November, Ian Richardson has made just one appearance for his Magpies outfit and now, as revealed just today, it appears that the 34-year old could now be within three weeks of a return to match practise, be it in the Magpies’ first or second-string side.

So, after undergoing a second operation to clear up any ‘wear and tear’ only recently, it now seems likely that the player manager, just in compensate – even if only the bench – for the injured Mike Whitlow, whose own injury troubles have yet to be completely confirmed.

Although, after having confessed to hastening an early half-recovery at the last attempt, the Magpies boss is now just happy to take things one step at a time.

In talks with the Notts County Official site, Richo said "I did quite a bit or work late last week before we went to Southend, I did ten laps around the pitch, some work on the cross-trainer and also a load of leg weights,"

"Obviously I was sore afterwards, but I was always going to be afterwards as I did a lot of work on it"

"I iced it last week on Friday and it felt fine so I am using this week to build my way up to fitness. I can't put a date, or game, on when I will return but it won't be long now if everything progresses well," he added.

"I don't want any reaction to the injury like before, so it is one step at a time and nice and easy."
