Trialist Jay Smith suffered an injury setback during his bid to gain a Notts contract. The Southend midfielder has been training with Notts this week, with manager Steve Thompson clearly ready to add new blood to his squad. Smith, who played his part in successive Southend promotions, will return to Southend, but Thompson is keen to bring him back for another look once his injury clears up.

The club revealed that the Hereford home match just before Christmas has been brought forward to Friday 22nd December at 7.45pm.

League 2

Luc Nijhot announced his interest in becoming Swindon's new manager. Following the departure of Dennis Wise, the Robins have been looking for a new man. Nijhot played for them during the 1993/1994 season. He appeared 37 times in the season they were relegated from the Premiership.

There were several transfers during the day, with Paul Ince bringing in two loan signings at Macclesfield Town. Blackpool have allowed Ince to take striker John Murphy and winger Simon Wiles on loan. Elsewhere Grays Athletic striker, Aaron MacLean has signed a two month loan deal at Peterborough, and Joe Keith has joined Shrewsbury on a month's loan deal from Leyton Orient. Orient have also allowed striker Lee Steele to join Chester City.

Liverpool have named an unchanged line-up for the first time in 100 games for their home tie with Bordeaux in the Champions League. Peter Crouch and Dirk Kuyt are therefore the preferred front duo.

Chelsea have left Andrei Shevchenko out of their starting eleven for their game at Barcelona. Didier Drogba starts up front, with Arjen Robben just behind him.
