Notts County

Defensive duo Mike Edwards and Alan White have had their say on recent and forthcoming events at Meadow Lane. Both spoke on the Official Site.

White, goalscoring hero in the 1-0 win at Darlington on Saturday, said: “Realistically, eleven points we should quite easily have had we have dropped in the last few months. That would have been 45 points which would have put us second.”

Hunt...Pushing for place
With his place having been under pressure of late due to poor form and the rise of Stephen Hunt, White acknowledged his team mate, “Hunty gives us that extra bit of power and strength and a left foot. He is fighting for a place in the team because he has done ever so well since the start of the season.”

On his own form, White said: “Up until about a month ago nobody could have pointed a finger at the back four. We kept one in three or four clean sheets which isn't bad. You only have to drop five or ten percent of your form and that's it.”

Following the win on Saturday, the players hit the Town in Newcastle, and a good night was had: “I was of the opinion that we should have knocked it on the head because if we go to Darlo and get beat then go out in Newcastle we would get questioned. But we said no, we will do it because we will go to Darlington and get a result. Whether that's why we won, because of the positive attitude, I don't know.

“Nobody knows you in Newcastle so it's great. You can keep your head down and do what you want!”

Edwards, outstanding all season said, “We've gone through a sticky patch, but I don't know a team that hasn't been through one although it would have been great if we didn't have one.

“I think you can always understand the fans' worries about last season. We started well then tailed off which was a massive disappointment, and after a few defeats like we've had in the last few weeks and also the last few year you can always understand the concerns. I think the fans can see here right now that we are a bit more combative and more winners and we're together as a group.”

The Club reminded fans of the ‘Happy Hour' in the Meadow Club before Friday's clash with Hereford United.

Fans will be able to purchase any draught pint for just a pound between 5pm and 6pm, whilst watching ‘Sir Charlie Palmer Day' on the big screen.

League 2

Bury were knocked out of the FA Cup after fielding an ineligible player during the 3-1 win over Chester City in round two.

The FA ruled that they were in breach of rules when they fielded on-loan Hartlepool midfielder Stephen Turnbull during the replay.

Chester will now travel to Ipswich Town in place of the Shakers in round three, though Chris Casper, Bury's boss, says the club will appeal.

Notts' conquerors in the Carling Cup, Wycombe Wanderers, last night defeated Premiership Charlton Athletic to reach the Semi-Finals.

Jermaine Easter's wonder goal sealed their passage at The Valley.

They could face Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea, Newcastle or Spurs in a bid to reach the final.
