Iceman: Frost the club's next hot prospect

Last updated : 25 April 2006 By Richard Brown

In a whirlwind two weeks for the young winger, Frost has made his senior debut, been named the club's Young Player and Youth Player's Player of the Season awards and has now had praise publicly thrust upon him by manager Thordarson, who sees the youngster as ‘the future of Notts County'.

Frost, just 16, has made two appearances from the bench in the club's last two league outings, with the teenager impressing on both outings for the Magpies.

Despite holding the youngster in high-esteem, Thordarson was quick to point out that if the youngster is to build upon his obvious potential, then much work lies ahead for the latest product of the club's YTS system.

Stef Frost has done well for us, and even before he had been involved with the first-team he had been doing well in the reserve games," said Thordarson, speaking to the club's Official web-site today.

"He is a promising player, but we know that there is a difference between being a promising player and being a good, strong and established professional. Even though the young boy has potential, and for that matter any of the others at the Club, it is down to them to keep working and working hard.

"Stef has actually proved a point with his commitment, but now is actually the beginning.

With the club's league campaign coming to an unfortunate close, the indications are now there for the Iceman to take another look at Frost, who's still, unbelievably, only a first-year scholar in the club's much acclaimed youth set-up.

"He is the future of the Club. He is only a young lad, but I have fancied seeing him in action and he has done well. If they are good enough, they are old enough.

"The hard work now is for him to continue what he is doing, and remain in the team,"

Elsewhere, another Mike Whitlow-lead Notts second-string side was in action today, holding local rivals to a goalless draw at the Reds' academy. The game saw a number of Frost's YTS team-mates in action and a number of trialists, as well as first-teamers Stacey Long and Dan Chillingworth, all hoping to catch the ever-watchful eyes of manager Gudjon Thordarson.
