Hughes set to sign for Magpies?

Former West Brom and Coventry City striker Lee Hughes looks set to pen a two-year deal at Meadow Lane today, becoming the first confirmed find of Ian McParland's long search for a striker.

Hughes, who has cost over £8,000,000 in transfer fees during his career, rejected a new deal at Oldham Athletic after scoring 18 goals in League One last season and the 33 year-old comes to Meadow Lane with an established reputation of scoring goals.

There had been speculation linking him with a return to former club Kidderminster Harriers, but it seems Ian McParland may have persuaded his man to move to Meadow Lane finally, and the move should be finalised today when Hughes travels to Meadow Lane.  McParland is still searching for a partner to Hughes however, and the trials of Chris Sharp and Dean Bowditch finish today, meaning the boss has to make a decision on their future soon.
