Henderson: I want to stay

Mills himself is also keen on keeping the Irish stopper, after seeing the 21-year-old enjoy an impressive opening month of an original 3-month loan deal.

Henderson, who is also the regular keeper for the Ireland under-21's, was particularly outstanding in last weekend's 0-0 draw at Northampton.

Hendo: Keen to stay
"We have made some early enquiries to Aston Villa about the possibility," the Magpies boss told the NEP.

"It is something that we would be keen on doing, because he is a very good player.

"He was outstanding against Northampton last weekend and, if he can play to the same level every week, he is going to have an important role to play for us in the future."

More surprisingly, perhaps, though is that Henderson himself seems keen on remaining at Meadow Lane for a little longer.

"To be honest, all I have wanted for some time is the chance to play first-team football and I am really enjoying it now that I have that." said Henderson.

"I don't think there is any doubt that I am learning a lot. It is benefiting me being with Notts."
