Heff's flying the flock

Who'd of thought it? After all, back in February the Irishman was quoted as saying: “I want to stay, I love it here.I have enjoyed my time here and I want to extend my contract."

On his way..
That was when Notts were on a run (by our standards) of wins against fellow relegation strugglers. In fact, the exact quote came after Heff had pulled off an amazing four-goal salvo at home in a 4-1 win against Stockport that had left visiting scouts drooling.

But after admitting that he'd now decided it would be best to move on to one of the many clubs who want him- Sheffield Wednesday, Bolton and Blackburn to name three- Paul Heffernan was a surprise starter last night against Darlington Reserves.

But, while it would have been easy for the 21-goal striker to sulk, he replied by hitting home a brace to respond to the criticism in the best possible manner.

It is typical of a player, who, despite what people may have you believe, is no trouble maker and is guilty only of wanting a shot at the big time.

Maybe, after the dust settles, Notts' fans may forgive Heffernan, or they may not. Either way, we wish him well, unless ofcourse his destination is for Joe Kinnear's men over the river.

Elsewhere, Paul Riley who is out of contract at the end of the season did his chances of earning a new deal no harm by smashing home the winner in yesterday's reserve clash.

Other news from the rather O.T.T Reynolds Arena, is that Notts gave
Chris Short ( hopefully as good as his name sake), a right sided player
from Sunderland a run out. As the 19-year-old is out of contract in the summer, he may well be one we could be seeing at Meadow Lane next season.

Now, it's time for you to get involved and let us know your view. Who will Millsy play upfront against Brighton? Should he give Heffernan one last hurrah on the Seaside? Which players, if any, are worthy of new deals?
Let us know your views via rob@nottscounty-mad.co.uk or, ofcourse, our messageboard is always open for plenty of debate.
