Heffernan Wants To Stay

Gary Mills today admitted one of his main priorities this week is to get star striker Paul Heffernan’s contract sorted out.

With Heffernan’s current deal due to expire in the summer, Notts are desperate to get something sorted out as soon as possible and after his four goal display on Saturday it remains no secret that many scouts are keeping an eye on him.
Heffs: Set To Stay
Mills is determined not to let the 22 year old Irish player leave despite Notts being entitled to compensation because of the Bosman ruling if he were to leave and Mills set the record straight by telling the Nottingham Evening Post;

“We will be holding talks with him and his agent this week."

Mills also went onto say; "He has shown what he can do again this weekend. That is why we want to keep him here.

I have never seen a player score four goals before, but we knew Heff was more than capable of doing it.

I think we have started to see the best of him in the last few matches. He is getting to peak fitness and he has been looking sharp. When he is in the mood he is dangerous.”

And Heffernan has today spoken of his desire to stay with the club by revealing to the NEP; “I want to stay, I love it here.”

Despite having scouts crawling out of the woodwork to snap him up, especially after the mouth-watering performance by the 22 year old at the weekend, it doesn’t look as though Heffernan is going anywhere.

Heffernan, who has fired 15 goals in 23 appearances this season also said; "I have enjoyed my time here and I want to extend my contract. There should be talks between the club and me and my agent this week. Hopefully, something can be resolved. I have spoken to the gaffer and he wants me to stay too."

Heffernan also revealed that his family were the inspiration behind scoring the goals on Saturday who were at the ground to watch the 4-1 win on Saturday.

Heffernan commented: "It was the first time since the Boxing Day match against QPR that they'd been over. I scored a hat-trick that day and I got four on Saturday so I guess we are going to have to get them over more often. Perhaps the club will chip in towards their air fare!"
