Heffernan in Hillsborough talks

The first official breakthrough since Gary Mills’ recent public announcement regarding the future of Heffernan has, reportedly, seen the club’s top goal-scorer begin proceedings towards making a short dash to Hillsborough, to a club who have made no bones about their intentions to get the former Republic of Ireland under-21 to pull on the famous Wednesday stripes.

Heffernan, who rightly or wrongly has been discharged from the first team by his manager, is an obvious target for the circling vultures who would jump at the chance to snap up such a prolific young talent whilst needing to shell out nothing more than an often tricky, negotiable figure of compensation – a fee which often only covers a small slice of the player’s market value.

But with Wednesday, not surprisingly, one of many clubs racing to acquire the services of the Dubliner, it is anyone’s guess as to which club will ultimately meet Heffernan’s ambitions whether it be the high-flying Premiership sides of Bolton or Blackburn, the more average looking Nottingham Forest or even the modest sleeping giants of Wednesday themselves.

One thing is for certain; whichever club he signs for, it will not be this one. End of story.
