Heffernan: I want to keep my place

With two goals in his first game returning to the starting line-up since being sent off against Peterborough, Paul Heffernan has said he hopes that his impressive perfomance can lead to a long spell in the starting 11.

Heffernan only started the game because of Clive Platt failing a fitness test. But he took his opportunity and now believes he can help the Notts' cause by starting against Bournemouth next Saturday at Meadow Lane.

Heffernan told the Evening Post "It has been frustrating being sat on the sidelines, of course it has, No player likes that."

"But I haven't really had any complaints, because the lads that have been playing have done well."

"I've lost my place through getting suspended, missing three matches, and I have had to be patient."

"In that situation you just have to work hard and wait for your chance."

"But I was obviously happy with the way things went at the weekend."

"Two goals on your first game back can't be bad."

"I haven't set myself any targets goal-wise, but my main aim is going to be to stay in the side."

But Heffernan also hopes that the Magpies can get a run going: "It is important that we do keep our momentum going now,"

"I am not sure about there being any extra pressure there, from not having won at home."

"I guess there must have been - and it was a relief to get that first win. It was a massively important win for us, it was vital."

"But it was also a really good performance for us, it was an emphatic win."

"Colchester are clearly a good side, given their results in recent weeks."

"But we managed to make them look second best. What is important is that we continue in the same vein now."

"We have to keep going in the right direction."

"We have talked about consistency before and that is still important."

"We have shown what we can do, but we have to make sure we do it again next week."
